Terms explained

1 lt /2 lt /3 lt /Etc: This is the metric capacity of the pot in which the plants, trees and specimens are supplied.

3ltdeep: This is an elongated 3 lt pot which is used for all climbing plants.

PC: This is a style of pot that is used extensively with specimen plants. This style of pot is a distinctive and attractive red/orange colour, often with a pronounced lip and decorative styling.

Pyramid: This is a cone shaped specimen, narrow at the top and wide at the bottom.

½ Standard: For trees this means it is of a normal upright shape.
For specimens and roses this is a plant with a clear stem, ending in a globe of vegetation at the top.

¼ Standard: This works on the same principle as the ½ standard except the clear stem and globe of vegetation are somewhat smaller and shorter than that of the ½ standard.

12/14, 16/18, etc: This is used for larger trees and specimens. This is the circumference of the stem of the tree measured at a point on the stem one metre up the base.

Bush: A natural shaped plant that is sold in a traditional bush shape.

3-Ball: This is a variation of the ½ standard. This has 3 globes of vegetation on a single stem separated by sections of clear stem.

Pom-Pom: This a specimen that has many branches on a single stem, each of which is clear and ends in a ball of vegetation.

Mature: A plant that has reached an age at which it has reached its full potential of size and shape.

Wooden Planter: An attractive wooden crate used instead of a pot. This is used to hold larger specimens such as mature Olive trees (Olea Europaea).

Pre-Priced Labels: This is the term for printed labels, that can be supplied on request at a cost of €0.11 each. These labels are bar-coded and display the retail price of the plant as required by our customers.

Multistem: This is generally a larger specimen with several main stems coming from the base in a single pot.

Trellis/Espallier: This is a plant that has been trained onto a trellis frame. This is generally a plant that is grown purposefully for wall cover such as pyracantha etc. Also widely used for specimen trees.

Extra: This a 1/2 standard plant with an extra large ball at the top.

Teardrop: This a 1/2 standard plant with a cone at the top instead of a ball. The cone is rounded at the bottom.

Tripod: Generally a climber that has been trained into a pyramidal shape by use of 3 canes in a single pot.

Topiary: Generally Buxus or Ligustrum plants that have been shaped and pruned into a decorative shape such as animal shapes.

Bonsai: A heavily pruned specimen plant that has a mature look while maintaining a minature size.

Column: Plant grown in a columnar habit.
